Using a nipple shield?

So my baby only wants to nurse off one boob and it became so painful that I stopped and just started pumping. But I recently got a nipple shield and now my baby latches so easily on both boobs. Can I use a nipple shield the whole time I breastfeed? Are there any cons to it?

I use one with my two week old. My nipples don't come out far enough for him to latch. So far I haven't had any trouble with supply. I pump in between feedings too. My pediatrician and lactation consultant both said as long as I feed him on demand and keep pumping I should be fine using the shield for as long as I need to. They also said as he gets older and his mouth gets bigger he'll be able to eventually latch without it, so we will see.

Idk if there’s any cons but it’s the only way I can breastfeed cuz my nipples don’t come out enough, my supply has stayed the same. I’d go for it if I was you! So glad that I have one

I breastfed my first daughter for 17 months with one! My only advice is buy multiple so you can have them all around the house so when it’s time to feed you don’t have to go find it, same with diaper bag! It’s a little messier than not having to use one but that’s not the end of the world.

I had to use one with my first baby and I ended up losing my supply. Apparently babies saliva and mouth not coming in direct contact with nipple causes you to not produce.

The only 2 cons I found was that I wasnt getting the stimulation I needed to keep up my milk supply, and keeping it clean and sterilized between feedings was a pain.
