Having trouble letting this go.

A few weeks ago at church, my MIL decides she wants to feed my 6 month old (She's actually 7 months today 😍) one of those peppermints that's pure sugar and melts as soon as it hits your tongue. So service is over and we're all standing around talking when I hear MIL talking to my LO saying "Does my baby want a peppermint?"

I quickly turn my head and say "No, we don't want her having that kind of sugar this early."

To which she replies "You have to wake up her taste buds so she'll learn to like food."

Total BS. I know.

Yet again I reply, "We really don't want her having that kind of stuff right now. Maybe some other time."

And of course DH is too busy talking to pay attention to what's going on between me and his mom.

So she proceeds to ask my LO again whether she wants to taste the peppermint. I'd had enough of her not listening at this point and replied "No! She doesn't need it! She can't have any!"

Then, she tells me "Yes she can! My baby can have whatever she wants!" and shoves the mint in my child's mouth as I'm trying to get her away.

Thankfully, I got my LO away and the mint left behind. I didn't say anything about it at that point because I didn't want to make a huge scene in church. But, I told DH afterwards and he was livid.

Normally, my MIL isn't someone I have any issues with. So this completely blindsided me. That fact that she completely disregarded everything I said, and our wishes for our baby, made me lose all trust in her in that instant.

And what scares me more is, we used to have her come over during the day when my LO was still a newborn and have her watch her while I took a nap. I'm wondering what she did while I was asleep that we wouldn't have approved of.

I'm trying to get over this, especially since the holidays are coming up and I don't want a bunch of drama at the family get togethers.

Does anyone have any advice?

I'm pretty sure I will never trust her with LO again. I just need to make it through these next couple months.
