Sleep Regression or growth spurt?

My son is 12 weeks and 4 days. From the day he was born he has slept in a dock a tot inside a bassinet and swaddled next to my bedside. Most nights he has slept pretty well and woke every 3 hours to nurse. He’s an eater. The last 3 nights my son has been waking often. He hasn’t been sleeping as well. Waking before his feedings and I instead of the occasional grunt and going back to sleep he will start screaming and crying and will be wide awake. The only way I could comfort him was to put him in bed with me. It was the only way he would sleep. During the day he also fights his naps. I r been sleep deprived for a while now.

So I did some research and some articles said “he is going through a 3 month growth spurt and he can be restless and more clingy right now”. Which would make sense but then I found other articles that said “he is entering a sleep regression phase.” (This phase can happen between 3-5 months) It said I need to start sleep training him. Some articles said baby needed to be in his crib at 6 weeks and others said they recommend him not going to the crib until 6 months. So that is very confusing. One article said “baby steps” so instead of fully going to his crib and changing his entire sleep environment we decided to take the dock a tot out of the bassinet and put him to bed in it sleepy instead of fully rocking him in our arms to sleep. Within 30 seconds he was out. He slept for 30 minutes then was screaming and throwing himself around. He continued to wake every 15 minutes. The article stated he may wake every hour...but every 15 was insane and doesn’t make sense! We tried shushing him, and rocking the bassinet and patting him but nothing worked. We finally had to pick him up and would eventually calm down and and go back to sleep only to wake up 15 minutes later. He did only nurse twice last night which was nice but the no sleep and screaming was awful and confusing.

I am so confused and lost right now and not sure what to do! I need advice please! It’s probably the sleep deprivation talking but I feel like I’ve just screwed up my kid!
