When is toddler too old?

To stay in the bathroom while the mother takes a bath?

I currently live with my mom and stepdad. My husband passed away a couple years ago, and I try not to ask them to watch my son because they usually won’t. They were asleep when I got my two year old sons toys and baby gate set up in the bathroom to keep a him away from the toilet, so I could finally take a bath. That’s what I usually do.

My mom wakes up to get something to drink and says she would watch him but I figured she was still tired and I already had everything set up, so I said it was ok, I had his toys and gate already set up. Then she tells me he is too old to be going in the bathroom with me. Now I feel like a bad mom.
