What ive learned about Breastfeeding

Nobody told me that you aren’t supposed to pump when you first have your baby, I did this and it made me overproduce they handed me a pump at the hospital and they said whenever he’s not feeding pump and make your milk come in! And I did and that made me overproduce. I’m scared of getting mastitis. Im on week three now and it has regulated but your milk supply acclimates to however much your baby is drinking so don’t make the same mistake I did and pump all the time lol. Just FYI

It can take up to 12 weeks for your supply to regulate. The more stimulation your breasts have, the more you will produce. Only pump some if you feel engorged in between feedings

My baby is almost 4 months, I have very little milk coming and baby doesn’t want to drink breast milk as supply is less do now I am giving formula as she always cry, made me to think that I am producing less milk, how should I get back to breast feeding and what will increase my breast milk, please let me know. Thanks..Susan

Interesting personal story; I have two kids and my first I did pump right away and did also create an oversupply. But I was able to keep up with it and slowly regulate myself and I never got mastitis.
My second I only pumped maybe once a day if even? (I was only working one day a week) and I got mastitis at 6 weeks postpartum and I was not making nearly enough milk.
Just wanted to share that because right now you’re making a bunch of milk doesn’t always equal mastitis! I donated a lot of milk with my first baby and over time just slowly reduced how often I pumped and he nursed. Hang in there mama!!
It’s kind of hard because some women don’t produce enough milk and saying you have too much almost feels bad 😓 at least I did. But it’s still very much an issue to have so much. I used to shoot milk a few inches out it was freaking nuts lol

I would contact a lactation consultant to see if they can help you stop over producing. But in the mean time, I recommend drinking lots of water and taking sunflower lechitin to prevent clogs.
If you have a clog that has turned into mastitis, please contact your obgyn for the antibiotics.
