Bf lying to protect my feelings??

Question

My bf of 5 years and I have had trust issues in the past but we’ve gotten over them. I forgave. But I feel like he walks on eggshells with me and won’t mention things so we both don’t get triggered by a past issue. 
This weekend he said he was hanging with guy friends but I legit saw his location at his female friend’s apartment for two hours. I only know where her building is because I’ve been there before to hang with a few people so I recognized the area. 
I asked again and he said he’s been with the guys…
I feel like he was hanging with her, but lied to protect my feelings from getting hurt. Innocent hanging or not, Isnt it worse to lie to me knowing I’ll find out? Like they could just be hanging out but then why lie about it…. Is that not weird to anyone else? ** I only checked his location because he didn’t answer me for a long time **

That’s not lying to protect your feelings…. That’s lying so he can do what he wants and not have to deal with your reaction, also another red flag that he wasn’t answering you. If that was me he wouldn’t be my bf. Trust and communication is the most important in a relationship.
