Dating Advice Please

I tend to overthink. I’ve been on a few dates with a man and have made it clear that I’m dating with intentions of starting a relationship (he agreed). I recently asked if he’s keeping his options open and he replied with “not really” and that he’s “not looking.” He’s currently deployed and I’m waiting for him to get back, as we have already made plans to see each other when he returns.

But I feel like I could be setting myself up to be hurt. He’s “not looking” but not necessarily shutting out the possibility of someone better.

How would you interpret this?
