Child ate leaves and soil?

Should I be worried?! The leaves had some black spots on them I swear I looked away for a second and she grabbed a handful and ate it. Now I’m scared my baby could get botulism or some form bacterial infection. Yes I’m a FTM with severe anxiety and I give her water to drink after.

While toddlers do tend to eat everything in sight, maybe it's a good idea to take them to their doctor. Eating soil is also commonly known as pica, which is associated with iron deficiency. Maybe it's time for an appointment

I’d be more worried about WHY they were okay with actually consuming it? Like if they felt compelled, like someone else said, that’s called pica. Ice cubes are not dangerous of course, but I just got my hemoglobin levels back to normal but when my iron was severely low I craved ice like I couldn’t live without it lol.

She should be just fine. Children put things in their mouth all the time. All of my kiddos have eaten, leaves, sand, dirt, bugs, etc. they are just exploring. They explore with their senses so tasting things is normal. I just say “leaves are pretty, for looking at, squishing, ripping, etc.” I alway show my babies how to rip the leaves and they love that and move on from tasting them.

Do you know what plant they are from? So long as it's not a toxic plant she should be fine. We all ate dirt and plant debris growing up at some point.

it should be okay but, i would always call your child’s doctor or even poison control to get some advice to make sure you don’t need to bring her in to get checked out! also look around the area of where she picked up the leaves because the doctor/poison control may ask you to describe them. it’ll be okay!
