Is this normal? Taking forever for doctor’s appointments

In July my son was referred to a psychologist from his pediatrician to be evaluated for adhd and autism. We just now had the appointment last week, it took that long to get an appointment. She evaluated him and I filled out probably 50 documents and his teacher did as well. Now I am being told they won’t have the “results” until November 30. Is this normal/typical? Taking literally 3-4 months to diagnose autism…?

Teacher here, it’s pretty normal to take 2-4 weeks in my experience from seeing the child to having a feedback meeting to get the ‘results’- they need time to score all of the questionnaires, consider all of the information and write a report. Your timelines all sound pretty typical.

Unfortunately that sounds normal. At least the wait time for the appointment, I don’t have experience with speed of getting results.

I think due to covid there is still somewhat of a backlog of evaluations that need to be done since they were not being done at all for a while, or they were being done via zoom. My daughter was evaluated for speech in September of 2021 and her referral was June 2021, and it’s was just speech so not as many evaluations had to be done. It sucks waiting but unfortunately I think it’s part of reality.
