Can’t find IUD strings

A month ago I got my coil fitted, a week later at my check up the nurse said my thread wasn’t anywhere to be seen. She referred me for an ultrasound to check it was in the correct place as I was in a lot of pain, ultrasound waiting list was 3 months+ & I had no idea how I was gonna wait that long in pain, anyway a week later the pain completely stopped and it’s been really good ever since, no pain, feeling great. Still on the ultrasound waiting list but in the mean time since I’ve been feeling good, me and my partner are having intercourse. My friend told me she’s never felt her thread and she’s always been fine, is there a high risk that I could get pregnant if it’s not in the right place? I think cause I felt okay I assumed it had settled into place. It’s just such a pain I have to wait 3 months to check it’s ok. I got fed up of condoms 😩 anyone had similar experiences?
