How do you feel about zoo's?

Personally I love/hate them. I love seeing the animals! But I hate where I am seeing them at!

Depends on the zoo. The one I live 2.5 hours away from has amazing conservation efforts and a breeding program that helps repopulate some of the endangered animals.

But that can't be said about all zoos.

I think that they can do some great conservation/education work, but I hate seeing them caged up like that.

I think majority of them only care about their wallets being fat and not about the animals. 
Fun fact: many animals are tranquilized so they seem more calm and happy in their habitat. 
Go to sanctuaries, not zoos and aquariums.

I hate anything that exploits/abuses animals for unnecessary human entertainment/ gain. I prefer wildlife rehabilitation centers.

Some zoos are for the conservation of animals, without them a lot more animals would be endangered. But then there are those that do not treat the animals well and give zoos a bad reputation.

Love/hate

I love them, because if you are just looking through a book and reading about these animals and seeing pictures - it isn't the same as seeing them in person. Seeing the animals in person is a great way to get kids and even adults passionate about them and interested in them.

I hate them, because there are not enough regulations to make sure that these captive animals have good lives. If we are going to keep animals in zoos it needs to be a requirement that they have a ton of space to move around, they can't be abused on any level, and you can't knock them out with anesthesia just to let people pet them. They need to lead as normal a life as possible.

Sanctuaries that let people visit are a much better idea.

They're fucked up and no animals should be treated as a show. I will NEVER take my children to a zoo because I want them to be compassionate to animals. They can learn about animals other ways from peering in on them through bars as the poor animal is going insane.

Mixed feelings. Generally I'm not a fan. The one in my city is considered good but I find it depressing. They seem more like exhibits/ enclosures designed with a visitor in mind more than the animals.
 
However I've been to Australia Zoo (the Irwin one), it's great. Decent habitats, the animals seem happy.
Same with Singapore zoo. They get tons of visitors but I feel like the animals are the priority.
