Self checks - do you bother?
Hello all. So I’m uploading this post based on the back of the ‘genetic testing’ one that Sparrow and I were wondering about recently.
Recently, I walked into my mums room (this was my first mistake - I didn’t knock and used my key to let myself into her house) to her laying in a strange position infront of the mirror topless poking her armpit. Now. I know my mum is a complete prude asian headscarf wearing lady and even more so as she’s a widow and I’d like to think she’s never known what sex is. It was also a shock knowing she actually has breasts.
Rest assured though, after running out screaming and swearing and thinking that I may need to sedate my own mum/call my siblings for an intervention, it became apparent (she yelled at me) that she was checking her breasts for lumps.
I was a little proud as we have no history in our family aside from my dad but that was through smoking.
Interestingly, when I was working in hospital, I came across many patients who claimed they didn’t check breasts, testicles or feel the need for smear tests or mammograms as ‘nothing was wrong and everything is fine down/up there anyway’ and then later blame doctors for not catching it sooner.
My question is, does everyone do these things regularly? Or do you wait until something isn’t quite right/until you have passed a certain age.
And be honest! I’ll know from here if you’re lying! 😊
