Should we do IUI for “mild” MFI?
Our insurance doesn’t cover ANY fertility treatment.
We are already in debt from paying for all of the fertility tests. We have been ttc #2 for 21 months. In March we learned DH has 2% morphology (4% & above is normal) & sperm have a forward progression of 2 (on a scale of 0-4, ABOVE 2 is considered normal).
The doctor said that because his sperm count is so high, he isn’t too concerned about the morphology and that since the forward progression is borderline poor, it is considered only mild male factor infertility.
He is on lots of supplements that we are hoping will help.
Still NO BFP yet though as we start ttc for the 22nd month.
Should we pay out of pocket to move forward with an IUI ($1800 without meds)? Or will our odds be super low so it isn’t even worth it?? Has anyone had success with an IUI for mild male factor infertility?
Or should we plan to pay out of pocket for the big guns, IVF ($10500 without meds) because it will have a much greater success rate?
Or option C, should we hold off and keep on ttc naturally on our own since it is mild male factor and it is very possible to overcome with a good diet & good supplements?
Please help me!! I am constantly flipping back and forth about what to do. If our insurance covered ANYTHING, it would be a no brainer. Our DD is almost 2.5 years old & it breaks my heart each month she is getting older without having a sibling & the age gap between her & any future children we may have is growing. I don’t want her to grow up alone 😭!! But I also don’t want to put us in debt & take away from her future!!!
Please give me any advice or suggestions!! & please, please, please share any success stories if your DH had similar sperm issues!!
