Obgyn suggested elective c section

Hello ladies, I would like your opinion.

I go to a private clinic specialised in natural/water births.

Yesterday during my 35w examination I had a vaginal discharge test.

As background, I have been dealing with a major depressive episode for the past 4 months/ am still on medication.

I have always been scared of pain and have very low pain tolerance. I also get very tense during vaginal exams/tests and the idea of a simple perineal massage makes me cringe.

Yesterday I couln't avoid scream while I was introduced the speculum and my obgyn took a sample. I also kept crying for a few minutes after the test.

I know I am being oversensitive due to my psychological issues but I was as equally surprised as the doctor.

He asked if I was confident enough I could go through a natural birth and I said I don't see myself able to do it. He then inmediately suggested a planned c section (although I'm 30 y/o + have a normal pregnancy).

I had my heart set on a water birth from the beginning but what happened yesterday discouraged me so much from it and now I am considering the c section... I am scared of not being able to manage the pain of contractions and the trauma of childbirth. However, surgery scares me too...I would like to know if there are other mums who were in a similar position or even if you weren't what would you do. (No judgement, please)

I would like to go for the less traumatic way given my current psychological condition.
