Chances of baby getting sick?

I had an incident with my 11 year old and had to take her to the emergency room. Sadly I also had to take my 2 week old with me and I’ve been freaking out ever since. He was in his bassinet stroller covered but I know that won’t protect him from viruses. I’m absolutely pissed at myself for taking him with me but there weren’t other options. I worry he picked up a virus and will be sick. He’s already feeling warm 🥺😭 what are some signs of a virus infection to look out for? He does have a doctors appointment tomorrow conveniently so I at least will have a pediatrician check him out.

Newborns still have a ton of immunity from you for the first several months of life; it’s nature’s built in protection. And if they’re breastfed they’re protected even further. If he/she was covered I wouldn’t worry too much unless they develop a fever.

Your baby can pick up anything anywhere and even get sick from going to the doctor for a check up. Your son is more likely to bring home an illness from school and give it to baby, to be honest. Also, it takes about a week from exposure to present symptoms of an illness.

Your child is just fine. I have no idea why you're pissed over this. Your kid clearly needed to go to the ER so there's no reason to be mad over doing what a parent has to do. Our daughter's doctors when she was little were all in our local hospital and we were there often (and that's without any of those annoying car seat covers over her). She's 2.5 now and has never had more than a stuffed up nose. Taking your child anywhere in public runs them the risk of catching something. Period. So there's no reason to be panicking over this. Also, the signs of a cold in a baby are the same as the signs for an older child or an adult. If you've had a cold in your lifetime then I'm sure you can figure it out if your baby has one. Fevers, runny nose, congestion, coughing, sneezing, etc. are all great indicators. Don't overthink it.

i truly think you’re being paranoid, but that’s a good thing! i took my 3 day old to the ER because he stopped breathing and everything was fine. he was in a room with sick babies also. coughing and sneezing.
