Self weaning?

My boy is like self weaning from his formula and will hardly finish his bottles beside his first one. He gets (usually) 3-8 ounce bottles and 1 bedtime 6 ounce bottle. He also gets 2-4 ounce purées a day. I want to try to start feeding him table food but I’m so scared of him choking which is silly but still a fear. Has anyone else’s self weaned a bit? And what did you do? What should I do? 😩

Yep. My girl barely finishes her bottle now but can polish a full toddler meal of finger foods like it's nothing. I figure as long as I'm providing all the nutrients and vitamins she needs in her food, it's ok. The fear of solids is real though. Start slow. 
I started after purees with thicker mash than purees like just a mashed banana or avocado or sweet potatoes. They auto-learn to chew to soften. Dont overreact about the gagging - its important and will help with learning to chew and take smaller bites. For finger foods I started with egg yolks (not whole egg as recommended from our doctor) and my girl LOVES them. Then just slowly work up the scale of soft foods: PB bread, fruits, steamed veggies, eggo waffles are great, and we do a lot of fresh fruit pancakes.
