Are you sending your child to school this fall?

Question

(We live in Florida) My daughter is suppose to start kindergarten in a month. The state doesn’t require for kids to attend kindergarten— mandatory grade begins at first grade. I haven’t decided whether I wanted to send her to kindergarten yet, (M-F, 9AM-12PM) due to the 2nd wave of Covid in our state. Just would like to hear from the other parents on what and why you decided for your child’s education this year for some insight/guidance.

I'd never even consider it. I'm a Behavior Analyst working in the schools and I myself won't be going back. Our oldest is supposed to start preschool so I won't be sending her either. Our country shouldn't be opening up as quickly as it is and schools certainly should not be going back in person this school year. Our family will not be the guinea pigs and I will not put our children at risk. Our household will be staying home and I'll homeschool instead.

My daughter will be in sixth grade and we’re doing remote/distance learning. I don’t feel safe sending her back. We’re in NE Florida. I’m a teacher as well and am looking for online jobs or to do a small homeschool co-op for a few families. Too high risk to be in the schools with over 1,000 kids let alone adults.

My friend's daughter was supposed to start kindergarten this year, but she decided it would be better not to because she didn't want her daughter's first school experience to be with masks and social distancing. Her other kids will be doing remote learning if it's offered. My daughter is 10 and we're doing remote learning as well

Our school systems are really trying to do what they can, but I still feel like I’m backed into a corner. My husband and I are currently working from home, but we could get the call to go back to the office at any time. Our school system requires you to sign a contract to do virtual learning. Once you start virtual learning, you only have two weeks to change your mind and send them to school. Other schools are allowing parents to send their kids to the school building at the end of 9 weeks or after Christmas break. But, if we do virtual, we only have two weeks to decide to send her to school and then it stays that way until August 2021. So, we feel like we have to send her since we don’t know when we’ll go back to work. 
There’s just no good solution.

Nope. My son will be starting pre-kinder. He will be schooling online. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING more important than his health and his life. When this is over, he can go back to school in person, which I believe is very important. But for now, his health and life is much more important.

This isn't applicable to me yet, as my daughter is only 16 months, but I would not.
