Signs of heart defects

So I was born with a hole in my heart that healed on its own. However my older sister had a heart issue that required open heart surgery. Doctors missed it and it wasn’t fixed till she was 3 months old. Doctors said any longer and it could have killed her.

I went to visit family with my newborn and he was asleep and seemed to be randomly gasping for air a couple times. Had mini crying fits for about 3-5 seconds than would fall back asleep.

I’ve noticed this before but I figured maybe it was normal. Doctors did the routine checks when he was born but nothing in depth obviously. I didn’t give them a reason to.

Can someone tell me if this is normal behavior? He also has times when he’s awake he’ll start breathing heavily than relax.

It’s starting to really worry me because she said my sister experienced the same thing before they discovered her heart issue
