Potentially overbearing MIL

This is a half-rant half-advice-seeking. We recently found out I’m pregnant (about five weeks) and we’re excited, nervous, all the feels! We told my parents over dinner first, and then had my husband’s parents over to tell them the news.

My MIL has been hounding my husband for grandchildren (specifically a granddaughter) for YEARS, even before we had met. Almost as if she cared more about getting a grandchild than her son finding a good life partner.

Also, MIL and I have a cordial relationship - nothing really special, but certainly not negative.

So when we spilled the beans she was absolutely beside herself with excitement, saying this was ‘a dream come true’ for her, and this would be the longest wait, and she just can’t wait until September! (when we’re due) FIL was totally encouraging to her, repeating ‘oh, this is your dream, you’ve been waiting so long for this’ etc. Like, am I even a person? Or am I just a means to get the grandkid you want? I don’t know, im glad they’re excited, but I’m a little put off by the things they said. But I don’t really understand the obsession of becoming a grandparent, either. Maybe someday I will.

The other thing that put me off was her comments about my drinking wine (not while pregnant, obviously). They brought a bottle over for dinner, which we didn’t open. They almost forgot it at our house, but remembered at the last minute, and MIL said ‘oh! We have to keep that wine safe from Katie!’ She had also mentioned they would have to lock up or hide the wine in their house when I come over now. I get that these may just be terrible jokes, and I’m sure my husband would say I’m just being sensitive, but really? Are the ‘jokes’ really necessary?

Am I being too sensitive? Am I just worrying? I just feel like she’s one of those MILs that will talk about ‘her’ baby, etc. Thanks for reading my rant if you got this far, and if you have any advice, I welcome it.
