Is my boyfriend being sexist?

I was talking about this shitty situation involving someone doing bad things and my boyfriend said "Just get their mom to tear them down". I asked what that meant and he said "No one can make you feel like a bigger piece of shit then your own mother can. Moms have this power. Some are amazing and choose not to use it, however if they do, a mother can tear you down and make you feel like the lowest piece of dirt and make you hate every part of yourself". I said that's offensive against moms and he's saying he's going off of experience. He had abusive parents but for some reason seems to hate his mom more. His dad was physically abusive, mom mentally and emotionally. His dad only hit him when he was drunk and would feel bad the next day, apologize and go try to buy him something to make up for it. his mom was abusive all the time and never apologized. Him and his dad had a huge talk a few years ago and they have a great relationship now, but has nothing to do with his mom because she never apologized or changed. Heres the deal.
