Newborn sharts 💩 read before vote

Does anyone’s newborn poop nearly every time they fart? He’s very gassy and often cries trying to get his wind up or down. his poop had lots of mucus in which seems better since we changed his formula but still not right. Is this normal or a sign of something?

He’s also had a sore bum for 2 weeks despite changing his nappy immediately and using cotton pads and water, drying his bum and using nappy rash barrier cream/ointment. Midwife isn’t concerned but I’m starting to think he should be better by now and pooping a small amount every time he farts just doesn’t seem right??
