did he purposefully try to ruin my birthday?

it was my birthday this past week and i’ve been planning to go out with friends. my bd and i have been split for about a month and he takes the kids one weekend day. so i asked him wednesday if he’d watch them saturday. he started talking about what if just me and you go out and i was like uh no. i haven’t seen my friends in forever (he never helped with the kids when we were together so i didn’t go out often). he then started saying i’ll see if have to work so was like whatever i have a mom who can watch them. but then my mom was being too sketchy for me (believing a scammer and doing all these things) so i didn’t want them to leave them with her so asked if he could which he said yeah. then the next morning he starts talking about how he feels sick and tired and i was like well are you sure you got them because i can find someone else. he just kept asking what the latest was that i could do and i told him what time because had tickets to something we wanted to do. he just said alright. so then the time comes he’s supposed to get them and he isn’t replying. i texted him when we’re heading towards his town and then when arrived and called him. no response. i ended up having to call my mom but regardless we missed our ticket event. about an hour and half after he was supposed to pick up he texts saying his alarm didn’t go off. i didn’t have service so he thought i blocked him so then was like wtf but i just enjoyed my day. my friends think he did it on purpose but i’m like hm do y’all think he did?
