19 week pregnancy loss.

I'm here to tell you about my loss that happened unexpectedly.

I just turned 19 weeks and had just found out my husband and I were going to expect a baby girl. Thanksgiving my sister threw a mini gender reveal but I noticed whenever I would cough, sneeze or laugh, I would leak but I just thought I was starting to have a weak bladder since it was my second pregnancy. This started to happen the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I had no symptoms of a UTI, no pain while urinating, having the urge to go to the bathroom all the time, nothing.

That Thanksgiving, I went to the bathroom, when I wiped, large mucus came out but I just thought it was my husbands semen since we had sex the day before. The "bladder leakage" continued and so did the mucus discharge.

The next day, Friday, I went to work and told my concerns to some nurses that I work with in labor & delivery. I was told to get seen in the ER to make sure everything was okay with baby.

As I got seen, I was told our baby girl had no fluid around her in utero.

I was put on bed rest for the weekend and I was started on antibiotics and fluids to try to build fluid around her. Sunday came, we were told fluid started to build, I was so happy! I was able to get up and shower, after the shower I sat in the chair but then I noticed I started to cramp on my right side.

Ultrasound was called and that's when they saw that I was starting to dilate.

I was moved to a labor room and was given an epidural. Once the epidural was finished, I ended up falling asleep.

That's when everything went downhill for myself and our babygirl.

I ended up with a fever of 103 and had uncontrollable vomiting along with low BPs of 70/30s with a pulse in the 140s. Labs were drawn and that's when they found out I was going into septic shock.

Ultrasound was called again and that's when they verified that our babygirl had no heartbeat. They called a rapid response and rushed me to ICU.

The epidural was stopped to prevent my pressure from dropping even more.

At 8:38pm our babygirl, Vanellope Marceline Hockaday, was born sleeping on December 1st, 2024.

After 10 days in the hospital; 4 days ICU and other days being transferred to PCCU and a regular medical floor as I progressed to get better after fighting for my life with pulmonary edema, pneumonia and water retention. Being on potassium, levophed and tons of other medication to help me survive. I was so close to being intubated as I was told because how hard I was trying to breathe on my own.

I pray to all women here to always take precautions when it comes to being pregnant. Please, do not hesitate if you're thinking something is wrong, go get checked out even if you think it's nothing.

All doctors tell me I'm lucky to be alive; all three doctors told me our babygirl saved my life at the time she had passed away. If she had continued to have a heartbeat, they were not able to remove her due to the Texas Heartbeat Law.

I apologize if this post gives you any uneasy feeling. I pray nothing like this ever happens to anyone.
