Highlights without bleach/peroxide?

I used to have super beautiful natural strawberry blonde highlights. Since having my son, my hair has gotten much darker, almost a chocolate brown with some highlights here and there. I miss my blonde but I don’t want to fry my delicate, VERY fine 2A wavy hair (I have a lot of it, just each strand is so fine you can’t feel it in your hands). My hair has never had anything done to it, completely virgin hair. I’m scared to try something that could end in disaster. Even just twisting it wrong can damage the ends so much I have to cut it.

Are there any methods to highlight hair without using bleach/peroxide?

I’m currently trying to John Freida “Go blonder” shampoo ONLY (not the lightening spray). It only contains lemon and camomile. It’s ever so slightly made a difference but not a huge one.
