Boyfriend’s bday fail!

⚠️PLEASE READ⚠️. So let me know if i am overreacting, so this past week was my boyfriends birthday, he told me he had to work that day from 2-6 which was perfect, the day before his birthday i went and bought some balloons (not helium) and placed a cake order to pickup on the day of his birthday. So his birthday then comes and he goes to work, when he leaves i start blowing up the balloons without a pump or anything by the way it was about 60 balloons just to cover the floor of his room then i also blew up a balloon banner that said happy birthday to hang up on his wall. once i finished blowing everything up I took a break to go pick up the cake from the store because it was ready, i get back and i continue setting it up, i realized i needed some more decor and it was around 4:45 so i knew i had time to pick up some last minute things. At around 5:15 he lets me know he is out of work, i still hadn’t even left yet to go get the other items and i wasn’t done hanging the balloon banner, he literally works like 2 minutes away from the house so i had no time, but i was like it’s okay, so i set the cake out and the balloons were blown up so it was decent and also men don’t care too much about the specifics so fine… he gets home and thanks me and is happy about it but fast forward to today he mentions that my “dollar tree ballon’s weren’t good enough” and that he should never settle for less. That broke my heart because I tried, we are both college students so moneys VERY tight so i did what i could with what i had, i asked him if he cared that his friends didn’t decorate or anything for him and he said he doesn’t expect it out of the them he expects it from me, so okay fine we’ve been together two years and he’s never gotten me anything for my birthday or even christmas and i always make sure to get him something but the one time i couldn’t do as much it’s a problem? that hurt me and he absolutely did not care he just said i should’ve been more prepared…which is true but also I TRIED. anyways let me know if i am crazy for feeling upset that he reacted this way i have no idea what to even say to him it makes me not even want to be with him.
