Dating someone in the Navy?

I'm thinking of dating someone who's going to go into Navy training in August or September (He doesn't have a set date yet). I was wondering if there is anyone here who dates or is married to someone in the Navy or any other military branch. What is it like? What should I know?

My boyfriend is in the navy and I'm a civilian and so far we've done just fine. Talk when you can and send mail as a surprise even when boot camp is over. Hand written notes are super important and can be uplifting when unexpected. I draw so I send art sometimes for example. But yes! Communication is KEY!

My boyfriend is army ROTC at my college and will be deployed shortly after we graduate. It takes a lot of love and commitment to date someone in any branch since they tend to have crazy schedules and have to go away for training a lot. But it's so worth it. I've never met more genuine guys than my bf and his army friends. :)

I was dating a guy in the army for over a year. It was so hard. We went 8 months without seeing each other then I got to see him for two weeks and he was gone again. Plus I didn't get to talk to him except through letters for 5 of those 8 months. I'm not the right girl for that type of relationship. But if you are strong enough to do it id say go for it. But there has to be a lot of trust and there WILL be tears. Just make sure you have a great support system and friends who can keep you distracted

My boyfriends parents where in the marines he said it was super hard they would move all the time. The dad was always away. It was hard for him to make friends and in a way he was sheltered his whole life.

I have friends who are married to military men and it's very hard on them, but definitely worth it
