Refusing an internal exam?

I had my pap in January, but my doctor says she does internal exams with her pregnant patients. With my last Doctor, who was amazing never did exams while I was pregnant.

Is this the norm? Can I refuse since I had a pap this year?

I'd refuse. My midwife doesn't do them bc she says even if it's abnormal, there is nothing you can do during pregnancy to treat it. So it's useless info according to her. They can test for STDs with a blood test.

I also refused. My Dr was very understanding and fully supported my decision. Do what you feel comfortable with.  This is your body, your pregnancy, and the dr needs to respect that.  They may pressure you a bit, but just politely decline and make sure you document it on your paperwork.

It's important to remember that it's your body. Throughout the pregnancy you will be offered opinions, advice and medical recommendations. It will ultimately be up to you to make every choice based on the information you have and how you feel and what's important to you. There's a few things I did in my first pregnancy and birth experience that I won't be doing this time around.

Pap is only necessary once every 3 years. I'd do whatever other exams since they're not as invasive, but it is still personal choice

It's totally normal. I told my doc I had one a few months ago with my gyno and she had me fill out a piece of paper allowing them to request the results. My doc said she likes to be thorough but there's no sense doing a pap twice with a 3 month time period.

It's the norm and you can totally refuse. I did allow the first internal exam because I hadn't had a pap this year, but any going forward I will absolutely deny. They're unnecessary unless there is a medical reason.
