when did you start taking birth control and how did your body reacts?

Two days ago I was put on birth control because of  irregular periods. I am an emotional wreck right now and can't make up my mind for anything. All I want it sleep. 
How did birth control affect you? And was it your choice or was it because of irregular periods?

I started the pill when I was 15 because of period pains. It instantly got rid of the pains but made my acne worse. I craved chocolate hoops every month but that was it. I switched to a different pill last December to try to help the acne and this one makes me super emotional around my period and crave all kinds of things. It's a really stereotypical period 😂 I was told on both that the weirdness would go away after 6 months, that's when you fully adjust apparently!

Started a year ago. I fainted once, got frequent headaches and minor breast tenderness on occasion but no longer experience any of these, the good has definitely outweighed the bad

Oh it was pretty awful for me too. I started about a year ago because I had ovarian cysts that were leaving me bedridden.
 The most trialing side effect of birth control for me has been, and still is, breast "tenderness" which for me is more like breast "debilitating agony". 
I gained 20 lbs. I'd lost that as muscle weight from the cysts beforehand, except this weight wasn't muscle. And it wasn't water weight like they said it would be either. All of this fat went straight to my back and my boobs!! So in addition to breast tenderness, my boobs grew literally 2 cup sizes. To this day, they change size depending on where in the pill cycle I am. 
And emotionally? Forget it. Crying doesn't describe it. I'm talking heaving sobs mixing with irrational thoughts and self consciousness that I've never had before in my life. My fiance tries his best to comfort me when I get like that, but this behavior is nothing like who I was before. 
Unfortunately, all of this drama is WAY better than being in the pain I was in before The Pill. I don't want to do an iud or anything like that, because I'm scared of something going wrong. I really want to have babies later

Hi Kitiara! I have been on birth control for 2 years. It was my choice to both prevent pregnancy and to lighten and shorten my periods. I do remember feeling very emotional and anxious at the beginning. I encourage you to make sure you're taking care of yourself: drinking plenty of water, sleeping, taking time for quiet thought and reflection, eating lots of fruits and vegetables, and exercising.

Your body is adjusting to a very new amount of hormones. 9/10 time you will gradually feel better over the next couple months until by 90 days you feel back to your old self entirely.

However, if at any time you feel suicidal, self-harming, or overwhelmed, contact your doctor right away. They can try other pills and other methods until you find the right fit. There are even non hormonal IUDs for those who are very hormone sensitive. So don't give up on your quest to better health!

I got on my first pill when i was 18 it lightened my periods is cleared my acne but every day was an uphill battle with nausea after 4 months i got off it & my hormones went crazy then i got on aubra which iv been on for 6 months & love ut

I started birth control about half a year ago.
In the beginning I did notice I was quite emotional, ESPECIALLY before my periods. I would become seriously annoyed and angry at nonsense and my emotions would be difficult to control, to such an extent that it would cause issues between my relationships with people.
Physically, my breasts would hurt for entire months, I developed more acne, my appetite basically disappeared sometimes (and the thought of food was sickening), and sometimes, randomly, I'd get serious headaches during my periods. 
However, with patience, most of these side effects subsided. My boobs don't hurt anymore, my skin is amazing, I can still be emotional but you learn to control that, and period pains are non existent.
Most people suggest waiting 3/6 months to see whether your birth control is right for you. In my case, although the some side effects were annoying, my birth control suits me perfectly.
Give it time, and your side effects will disappear.
My advice to dealing with these things is to concentrate on the positive. You have regular and controllable periods, your periods will become better, and if you're sexually active, your sex life will change for the better.
