there is this guy at my school and he's new. he started messing around with this girl (who btw asked me what she should get him for valentine's day) and they started holding hands and hugging nothing serious but on the side he flirts with me and asked me on a date multiple times. do i go but keep it a secret? i'm not best friends with this girl, but i know her...

Whatever you decide, don't keep secrets. It's a bad idea.
 
Personally, I don't the like to date a guy who shares himself around a lot... but if you're ok with that, they don't seem exclusive. 
 
Maybe next time you see him just act surprised and say I though you were dating what's-her-name? and see what he says.
