What's so bad about Herbal Essences???

...Could someome please explain this to me?! 
So I recently made a trip across country to put on a bridal shower for my best friend. I was flying from the east coast to the west, and since I wanted to pack as light as possible, I went to the store to pick up some travel sized products. The store I went to only had 2 different brands of travel shampoo/conditioner: Pantene & Herbal Essences. Previous experience with using Pantene has taught me that it doesn't agree with my hair (it weighs it down too much, making it look flat), so I went with buying a couple bottles of the Herbal Essences instead.
When I got to my destination, the day of the shower, my friend and I had some last min shopping to do. We were at this department store when I picked up a bottle of shampoo I've been interested in trying. I was reading the back lable when suddenly my friend came over, ripped the bottle from my hands and said, "Eww! Don't buy THAT! This is almost as bad as those LOSERS who use Herbal Essences Shampoo!". It made me feel like total s*** because there I was, knowing full well I was one of those "losers" she was referring to, as that's what I had packed in my bag! I asked her what was so wrong with Herbal Essences (I'd used it that morning to wash my hair and didn't see a problem with it), and her response was, "Check the ingredients! It's virtually the same thing as hand soap... It's cheap crap that only cheap losers buy!". I know I shouldn't have taken it so personally, but her words were very hurtful to me, and it's been bothering me ever since!
Can someone please explain to me what's so bad about Herbal Essences Shampoo?? Is my friend right? Is the stuff really the "cheap crap" she claims it to be?? At home I use Redken products because I like what it does for my hair, and the bottles are so big, it lasts me a good while, but I've been using the Herbal Essences since I've been on my trip & haven't noticed a problem with it. Could someone please explain this to me? Is my friend right, or is she just acting like a stuck up snob?

.... coming from someone who is a licensed cosmetologist, herbal essences is a crap shampoo along with Pantene and a lot of the other shampoos. She isn't wrong when she says it's similar to dish soap, the cheap shampoos strip color and can be damaging. Pantene products make your hair feel good for a little bit when using them because it literally puts a wax buildup over your hair.

If you spend the money to have your hair professionally colored, don't cheap out and use cheap hair products... you are wasting your money.

Tresseme is probably the only over the counter product that ive used that doesn't leave a residue or strip color.

Herbal essences makes my head super itchy, which is why I don't use it. It smells sooooo good though. 
Your friend is being judgemental. Maybe some of the ingredients are lower grade, I dunno, but who cares if it works well for you?

It is definitely not the best shampoo you could buy for yourself, but as far as being a cheap loser for buying it… No. She sounds super judgy and pretentious. I would've told her right then and there that I didn't give a shit what she or anyone else thought about my shampoo.

She sounds petty and must think name brands are the best thing since grilled cheese. Nothing is wrong with it if that's what you choose. While some ingredients aren't good for your hair there's nothing else wrong with it.

What a snob. That's snobby. And stupid. I use tresseme and every hairdresser or shampoo girl has always asked what I use bc my hair is so healthy.
