Boyfriends virginity

I'm 16 years old and my first boyfriend has had another girlfriend before me and he's been my first everything and it makes me nervous that he's not a virgin. I always pictured myself losing my virginity to somebody who is also a virgin so it scares me to ask him if he is because if he says he's not it I'll be devastated. How do I ask him in a way where I won't get emotional and what do I do if he says he's not? How do I accept it if he's not? I really love him so I wouldn't breakup with him, I just need advice.
