Anyone ever get eczema on their nipple?!

I have struggled with skin issues my entire life which includes eczema. I've always used highly potent topical steroids to deal with this. Since being pregnant I haven't been able to use steroids with such potency. With that being said, around month 4 of pregnancy I developed Econ my nipple. I went to my dermatologist and they prescribed me a few different topical medicines all of which have not worked. I am now 8 months pregnant and still have this and I'm worried that I won't be able to breastfeed if it is still there. Anyone struggle with this? Help!!

I would think if you can push through any pain it would be fine. An IBCLC may be better suited to answer that though and give suggestions. Try working with a naturopathic doctor to treat your eczema and skin troubles. The problem with western medicine is they don't treat the root of the problem, the inside. They just try to clear up the skin with creams. Treat the inside and the outside will clear up. We went through it with my dd and my naturopathic doctor was able to help us clear it up completely.

I have Psoriasis and I  the begging of my last pregnancy my nipples were covered.  I washed/ exfoliated before feedings and within a week of breastfeeding it cleared up.  I swear it was from sitting in my milk soaked pads!

there are a few things you could try. lanolin or earth mama baby angel nipple ointment, both are creams specifically designed to help moisturize and protect the nipple. both are safe for breastfeeding. if coconut oil has ever helped your eczema in the past is an all natural safe alternative for your nipple as well. I would probably start with the lanolin(you can't use lanolin if you have an allergy to wool) or the earth mama cream first, but if that isn't helping you then I'd ask your ob for some all purpose nipple ointment. it's most often prescribed for yeast issues, but is an amazing healing oinment for a whole assortment of nipple issues. it has an antifungal, antibiotic, and anti-inflammatory in it. it is also safe with breastfeeding. the apno is gold in a bottle (helped me so much when feeding my first baby). finally if your leaking colostrum at all rub that into the nipple too. few things are more healing than breast milk. hopefully one of these things will work for you! good luck!
