Family/school problems

I just started high school a few weeks ago and my dad has been harping on me about making new friend and being out more since 8th grade (I'm a freshman now). He doesn't want me to be like my older sister who wouldn't go out a lot and would be by herself for her 4 years of college. I'm tying to make friends but I have a lot of people who are rude and stuck up sometimes and always popular in my grade. He keeps saying that if I don't make any new friends and show improvement on being out more this year he's gonna transfer me to a new school and I don't want that. I need help with trying to make more friends and being more social. I'm awkward and can be shy at times I new people so that doesn't fully help me. Someone please help me and give me advice no really don't want to go to a new school next year
