How to be subtle

There's this guy that works at my local deli and I'm super attracted to him but I have no idea how to let him know that? I don't want to just straight up ask for his number because 1. I'm not confident like that and 2. He's working so it's really awkward. I can't like whisper to him because there's an entire counter filled with ham in between us 😭 his coworkers and everyone would hear me. I grew up very sheltered and wasn't really allowed to talk to guys, so like what can I say to him? I've never genuinely liked a guy before
