Pregnant women from the UK?

I just wondered what to expect from my first midwife appointment.. (I'll be around 8weeks) Iv read alot of the American women get a ultrasound at their first appointment but the NHS don't do that so early.. But Will I get to hear baby's heartbeat? I think waiting until your 12 weeks for the first glimpse of your healthy baby xx

I first got seen by a midwife at 11w. She took my medical history and asked me lots of questions, took blood samples (and wee, I think..can't remember), blood pressure. That was it. Following week was my scan, plus more blood taken x

Here in Wales the midwife comes out to the house at 8 weeks. She took all my details... Medical history, allergies and so on. Also asked me what blood tests I wanted to have done so have a think about that before you see her. Do you want the blood test to check for downs for example? They do that around 16 weeks. Told me about an aquanatal class in my area too. She also took my blood pressure. That was about it! No scan.... Thought she may have measured my tummy but didn't. I've just had my 12 week appointment today where I had the scan, blood tests, blood pressure taken again, x2 urine samples & I was weighed. Hope this helps... Good luck :)

When I went for my 8 week app they just take all your details and fill in the booklet that will follow you through your pregnancy- medical history etc. Then they send you an app for your ultrasound in the post. I was 10 +5 when I had my scan
