Should animal abusers get the same sentences as people who abuse humans?

The maximum an animal abuser will get in jail is 5 years plus an unlimited fine, it was previously 6 months.
I believe this should be much higher, especially for people who brutally abuse or even kill animals. In fact I don’t understand why the maximum is so low...

There was a story in my town of a man who drug a puppy by a rope behind his truck, put it between 2 cinder blocks and then decapitated it. It was his girlfriends puppy and he was trying to get back at her for something... In cases like this I agree the punishment should be much higher. It's sick.

Yes. There are lots of abuse cases where animals go through just as much horror and pain as some humans. Animals also cannot speak for themselves. Abusers should get the same amount of time.

Animals don't have the same rights as humans. We breed them, use them as cheap labor, and kill the for food.. should those be rape, slavery, and murder charges? I don't agree with animal abuse at all, of course, but I don't see this being practical or even making sense.

Any animal (squirrel, deer, hamster, etc.) should not be held to the same standard as humans. I'm not saying it's okay to do something like shoot a squirrel will a BB gun, but you have to admit the difference between that and something like a 5 year old girl getting burned with cigarettes. Squirrel does not equal 5 year old girl.

Most definitely. I don't care about the severity of the abuse- abuse is abuse. I consider animals to be like children and studies have proven time and time again that animals have similar emotions and feelings. 
To make things worse, a dog doesn't even understand why it's happening to them. 
I can't stand people who abuse animals. They are generally also awful people to humans.

Studies show that domesticated animals have the same feelings to their owners as children do to their parents. So yea🤔

I put depends. Neglecting and animal is not the same as neglecting a baby to me. If someone came round my house and my dog was sat outside with a few days worth of poop still in the garden, its yuck but that isnt the same as leaving a child surrounded by their poop for a few days. Someone beating an animal should be punish though and murder should also be punished. Again though, acccidently killing your fish because you cleaned the tank with bleach isn't manslaughter 🙄 ( I didn't mean it!!)

I would love it if they did, but that will never happen. As long as the cruel meat industry exists, animals will never be seen in the same light as human beings.
