Do you moms teach your kids foreign languages?

I’m Mexican and I grew up hardly speaking any Spanish, I had to take Spanish classes in high school and I actually passed but it was very embarrassing because I felt like I should of known Spanish before that. I’m older and my Spanish is way better and I can actually have conversations, read, write and translate in Spanish but I always wondered why my parents never tried to get me to speak Spanish when I was little. I hope that when I have kids one day, that I can teach them Spanish so they can talk to their grandparents and great grandparents. 
Was it hard teaching your kids a different language other than English? Do they speak like that all the time?

My first language is hungarian. Currently we still luve in hungary. My son speaks hungarian but i make time every day to teach him a bit if english as well. Like songs and colors and such. We plan on moving to a differrnt country so i want him to be familiar with english and german. He is 2.5 he will start kindergarten in september and he will go to a german kindergarten where they learn basic german aords and songs and such.

We're planning to teach my son Turkish. His dad is from Turkey.
He's not started talking yet but what I've seen with other families is that if they don't have other kids to speak the language with they lose interest in it.
A Turkish family i was friends with were struggling to get their son to speak Turkish after he started preschool.
He could speak some but making lots of errors. Even though both his parents were Turkish he was preferring English even at home and spoke it better than his migrant parents.
There was also a girl at uni who had a Turkish mother who migrated when she was young. She didn't teach her daughter Turkish because she was bullied so much in school and didn't want the same for her child. So she didn't teach as a means of protecting her from that. She was still struggling to learn Turkish as an adult (its not a popular second language so there's almost nowhere offering classes if you're not in the Turkish suburbs of Sydney and Melbourne) 
There's lots of reasons that parents don't teach their native language to their kids. Sometimes it's the child's choice or lack of interest, but as adults they usually feel like some of their identity is missing. Or they missed an opportunity. 
Ask your parents if you can. I'm sure they had their reasons.

I’m an Australian/Turkish and so is my husband we both were taught at a young age to speak Turkish on top of speaking English. Currently pregnant and will definitely be teaching them how to speak Turkish aswell as English comes naturally as most of our speaking is done in English unless we’re speaking in private somewhere and don’t want people to understand . But to my knowledge kids are like sponges so they pick up the extra language easily and it sticks if it’s used so teaching your child /children Spanish when little will help them and it’s a great character boost to be exposed to different languages

I’m interested in this too! My fiancé is French and I’m American so I hope we can raise our kids bilingual. We’ll be living in France (not trying to go back to the US lol) so that they’ll learn easily, I have to make sure I constantly talk to and show them movies/books in English...no kids yet but those are the plans

Im teaching my daughter Spanish as well as English I’m Mexican as well and was always placed in English classes which was cool but learning Spanish was hard! I passed thankfully 😅 but I will be teaching my daughter to be bilingual

Same with my parents. We are mexican but they speak more english than spanish, i guess they were alittle lazy to teach me or speak to me while i was a baby spanish.... but i do know how to speak alittle bit of it like the basics.. not too much though. I was embarrassed too when i was taking Spanish in college i was like wtf am i doing in here lol:/
