Just let baby "cry it out"???

Question

What are your opinions/views on letting your baby "cry it out"?? I'm a FTM and it bothers me when I hear people say not to pick up the baby all the time if he's crying...that he'll be super spoiled if I give him the habit. My husband has kids from a previous marriage and he's a firm believer in giving the baby a chance to cry so that it'll help his lungs. I think that's a bunch a crap but that's just me.

I don't think you can spoil a baby. When they cry, they need something and they don't have the verbal ability to tell you. Could be simple needs like hunger, a new diaper, to be burped, or it could just be that they need comfort, attention, and love. The world is very different from your uterus! It's a big change for babies.

That being said, it is totally okay for you to put the baby down and walk away from crying if YOU need a break! It can be exhausting and stressful to try to calm a screaming infant for hours. You have to remember self care so that you can take care of your child.

Follow your instincts. No one will know your child better than you.

My daughter is a terrible sleep fighter. And while I hate to hear her cry, even at two, sometimes she has to work through her emotions herself. Even when she was younger, we had to let her fuss herself to sleep because any stimulation kept her awake! But I could tell the difference between her fussing and actual crying.

I don't think cry it out is appropriate u till they are a bit older, but I do it after that. A newborn needs to know that if they cry or need something someone will respond. It makes them feel safe. I never did cio until at least six months and even then it depended on my child.

I feel that this depends... Bc a newborn can not be spoiled. If a newborn is crying there's a reason whether it be Bc baby is hungry or just needs some loves. But I do feel that after a certain age they do need to cry it out at times. Now saying that I only feel it's ok to do so if you know baby's diaper is clean, baby is fed and there isn't anything he/she needs.

With my first son I did spoil him and I went to him every time he cried as it took a long time to break!!! Lol

I am soon to be a sixth time mom and I have never let any of my kids cry it out. Babies will not be spoiled if you pick them up. If they are crying it is because they need you. Crying is their only way to tell you they need you.

When babies cry they're looking for comfort. They are supposed to know that you'll be there for them whatever they're need is. By letting them cry it out not only are you breaking your bond but they'll lose that trust knowing that you'll come to them when they need you. A child cannot be spoiled by being attended to.

I think it's more of a routine thing. You make sure all needs are met first. Then you are suppose to check on them every few mins. But it's something to start doing later if you chose to do so.

I was very against the CIO method until I had kids. Although I try everything else first, sometimes you have to to keep your sanity!  I don't like it, but it certain circumstances, and after a certain age, I think it's appropriate.

Nope, my daughter has never cried her self to sleep and shes almost 2. Babies don't understand and I don't think its fair to make them cry it out. On the other hand even if shes perfectly fine and playing if I le	ve the room she cries and does not stop. But when she does that and I know shes okay she just wants me back in the room I let her cry. Not for long but sometimes she can even see me from where she is playing and she will still cry and scream. Every baby is different though.

Having my 4th baby and I have never done it. My 2 older ones are great sleepers and my 22 month old sleeps through the night (mostly). Is it tiring? Yes. But I cannot stand to hear them crying if they need any form of comfort.

Just let baby "cry it out"???
