Is this normal for newlyweds

Hello,

I am newlywed, a little over a month and we only do it once a week. I have to initiate almost all the time. I keep hearing from him that he is doing thing for my sake or that he has to do better. It doesn't feel that he wants it as I do. We were both abstinent for almost 2 decades. Is this normal for a newlywed couple? If marry people usually do it less when they are married for year, should I expect the frequency to slow down even more?
