I am not ready for a relationship

My boyfriend just told me that he is not ready for a relationship after I opened up a discussion where I told him that I feel this huge gap between as I laughed when he told me that I felt so stupid and I almost bursted into tears the way he chats with me every single day didn’t show me that he isn’t ready he treated me like I am his girlfriend told me that he loves me I seriously don’t know how to respond I just hung up after him telling me that we should talk tomorrow I don’t know what to tell him plz help
