Is going to a breastfeeding class THAT helpful?!

Question

The class is a 50 minute drive from me and lasts for 2 hours. I'm going to breastfeed feed but i just wonder if I can use YouTube/Google/books to teach the same exact stuff?
If you went to a class, would you say it was worth it? Would you do it again if the drive was almost an hour?

My dr actually told me not to go to one. She said the hospital does a great job at going over everything once baby is here.

For me, absolutely yes and I’ll be going again when I get pregnant with baby #2. I wish I had taken my husband and I will be taking him to the next one. It helped so much trouble shooting once the baby arrived. I really struggled with BF and if it wasn’t for that class I would have quit the first day.

Depends on your comfort level. I went to al of the classes because I was so nervous. I thought the breastfeeding class was good. But I have flat nipples and I wish I had done more research on that ahead of time. The hospital offered plenty of support and even set me up with a hospital grade breast pump and lactation support right away.

There are some online classes that you can take too. I keep hearing about one called Milkology that I think is like $20. I haven’t looked into it at all yet but I’ve heard good things. I don’t think it’s a bad idea just so you have a general idea of what to expect but the people at the hospital were helpful with issues after birth too.

I’d prefer to see someone after baby is born. Issues come up and a class or consultation would be more helpful to address specifics rather than general info you can read about online in my opinion (as someone 5 weeks postpartum with breastfeeding issues)

I didn’t go to a class. I did have lactation consultants visit in hospital and out of it. Support groups were helpful too. BF is something that I think would be really hard to teach without actually doing it. The nurses and hospital lactation consultants were wonderful. My daughter and I are 10 months and going strong!

The thing I liked about classes more than videos is that sometimes you learn something and have a question...in a class you'll get the answer versus more videos and googling your question lol. So worth my time. Didnt even think I'd have questions until I started learning and then it was a constant stream of "what if ..what about...have you ever"

I would definitely recommend the class! I did this while I was pregnant with my son. There is so much they can teach you so that you are not going into it blind. Plus they will go over pumping and storing milk also. The nurses at the hospital after you have the baby are helpful but its definitely better to have a certain level of understanding beforehand. The nurses most likely wont have time to break it down as much as you need. They will probably give you a booklet also to go back over.

Not gonna lie I went to a class(which was also 2  hours long) and I really don't know if it was worth it for ME. I feel like mostly everything that they talked about was something that I had already read about or studied up on. I am a first time mom and I think I would have felt prepared the same with or without the class. HOWEVER it was free through my hospital so that is why I took advantage of it and if you have a partner who wants to go with you I think it definitely helps them understand how to help you out and what is going on. My husband learning something out of the class meant more to me than me not learning anything. I'd say you have nothing to lose from going, but you may not miss out on much either. I wouldn't stress about it(:
