Do sex offenders not have to go door to door anymore?

I signed up to receive texts when a sex offender moves in by my address. I recieved the alert that a man who was convicted of 3rd and 4th degree sexual misconduct moved in right across the street. I thought they had to go door to door and let everyone know.

They don't go door to door because of how dangerous it can be, either for you or for them. My husband and I went rounds about this because he swore they had to go for to door lol. The police department just has to notify you now. Where we live they have town meetings about it even.

No they are not to go door to door. They would be violating probation to do such because there are minors at the homes but even the offender doesn't know what homes have minors. They are however responsible for updating police and probation of their residence. Based on the their offender status due to the nature of their offense, is what determines what actions law enforcement takes in notifying the neighborhood. Prior to the technology we have, it's the responsibility of citizens to check the registered offender list on occasion to keep themselves up to date. That's why the list is made public.

They just have to report their address to the police and such. If they went door to door they’d more then likely run into a minor at one of them which wouldn’t be ok. Am curious how you get the text alerts though. I typically just check online but alerts would be much easier

No, they don’t....
An I’ve never heard of this, as to what century you think we are living in. 
My high school years I grew up right next door to a registered sex offender and my parents were foster parents, and we still fostered kids.
What did you expect from them going door to do baking goods and bring them over and saying hey I’m a registered sex offender wanna come to a bbq back at my place. 
No, they are registered if you want to know you can look it up.
