How would you count your anniversary ?

So my dating anniversary and wedding anniversary are on the same day. August 28? We dated for 8 years when we got married. we have been married 8 years today. We been together a total of 16 years and living together 15 years.  I don’t like to say just a 8 married like the 8 years before didn’t happen. For me nothing changed when we got married since we were already committed to each other. It’s was just making it official in the eyes of the law.  Most the time if they know us we just say 16 years together if anyone ask.

Just how long you have been married. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I mean people usually date before getting married so people usually know you have been together longer than that. But it’s whatever you want.

My parents were together for 5 years before they got married, so it was always “we’ve been together 32 years” even though they spent 5 of those years unmarried!

I've been married for 18 years. It's not that the years before that don't count. We just prefer to celebrate our marriage.

I just say 'together going on 5, married almost 3' or similar. I'm sure once we reach a certain point where 2 years is insignificant I'll drop that and just say 'married almost 26 years' or whatever.
