Should I date my best friend

I’ve had this guy best friend for over a year now and we are both juniors in high school. He’s had strong feelings for me for a while now but he’s told me he’s also like a couple of other people in our friend group. Lately I think I’ve been catching feelings but I’m not exactly sure yet. We spend a lot of time together and know a lot about each others past. I want to get closer and see if things could work out but I don’t want to lose my best friend if it doesn’t. Is it worth it?
