I have a crush

So I’ve liked this guys for a while now and we’ve known each other since the start of primary school. He is the year above me. He knows that I like him but has said that him and I could be something in the future. I’m confused as to why he said that because he doesn’t have a girlfriend and said to me about a month or two before I told him that I liked him that he liked me. So when I told him I had feelings he said he had feelings for me but said that we could be something in he future. I just want some help as to what he means and what I should do in this situation☺️😕🥰
