Name trouble!

Molly

So our baby has been nicknamed ‘Ted’ since before we even had a scan! And my partner agreed that if we gave the baby his last name then I could choose the first name. So since about 18 weeks he’s been called Teddy-George which I adore and have personalised stuff with Teddy on already but my partner has now said it’s stupid and he should be named Theodore or Edward on the birth certificate but nicknamed Teddy. I don’t like either of those names and don’t ever want anyone to call him that which they would if it was on his legal documents like at school etc.

I don’t want him to dislike the name of our child but I don’t want to put a name I don’t want him being called on the birth certificate just to keep him happy! I just don’t know what to do :(

My dad's name was Teddy and he went by Ted most of the time. Seemed alright for him.

How funny. If ours is a boy he’s going to be Teddy George too! Stick with Teddy 👍🏻

Definitely! It was hard to find a middle name that went with Teddy. The other name was Teddy James but he’s got an uncle James and didn’t want to name him after his uncle so Teddy George it is....unless it’s a girl and then I’m stuck because I find girls names so much harder!!

I love the names together! Think they just roll off the tongue so nicely!

There’s kids named Teddy legally and I think it’s adorable ! Maybe try talking about it and coming up with a new you both agree if he doesn’t want Teddy

Oh in that case I completely agree with you .. it would be a waste to change his name when you already have all the stuff and you both agreed to it 20 weeks ago. And it honestly just sounds better than the other 2 your hubby wants. I mean Theodore is nice but the chances of him being called teddy at school is really low since they usually go by his legal name and it’ll only be his family and close friends calling him teddy!! I’ll definitely stick to teddy !!

Yeah, I just don’t want to change it because that’s what we agreed on nearly 20 weeks ago so seems odd calling him anything else and he’s already got clothes and dummies etc. that say ‘Teddy’ so it seems like it’s waste them if we changed it 😩

I caught a lot of crap for naming my son Charlie and not Charles. I didn’t like Charles and i didn’t want him to be called that. I went to high school with a true Charlie and i messaged him. He said he had never wished his parents named him Charles and that sealed the deal for me. Now he is 8 and I’m super happy with my decision.
