Pregnant and white wine?

So today is my mother's birthday and I thought it would be nice to cook her dinner she loves shrimp so I found a shrimp scampi recipe and it requires dry white wine is this the same as regular white wine or is it different? I've never cooked with alcohol before so idk if it's the same thing and is it safe to eat while pregnant and where do I buy dry white wine or if I'd just get it at the liquor store lol sorry I sound dumb I'm 25 and don't drink so I have no idea what I'm looking for 😅🤦‍♀️

I usually go with a Chardonnay for cooking. Since your cooking with it it doesn’t have to be a fancy one. Or just grab cooking wine at the grocery store. The alcohol cooks off so it’s safe to eat in pregnancy.

For a dry white wine you want a Chardonnay or a Pinot Grigio, whereas a sweet white wine would be a Riesling or moscato. You can buy small bottles perfect for cooking in the liquor store, basically individual serving size as you’ll only need a cup or so for most recipes. You could get a bottle and give the rest to your mom if she’ll drink it. Cooking with wine is fine, the alcohol will cook off.

if you dont mind me asking how many weeks gestation are you? thatll help with your question, if youre early in the pregnancy then try finding an alcohol free wine but late in the pregnancy a regular wine would be fine, as the alcohol cooks off but not a lot does. also it helps when trying to breastfeed (i think i remember hearing that some where)

I wouldn’t risk it in pregnancy. Not as much alcohol boils off as people often think. If you’re boiling it for 1-2 hours most of the alcohol will boil off, but I’m guessing as it’s shrimp it’s a quick cook, so most of the alcohol will remain. If you can find an alcohol-free wine though that should work.

Dry wine is the opposite of sweet wine. I don't know about other places, but the grocery stores where I live do sell "cooking wine" but I'm not sure how it's different from regular, I just used regular wine when needed. If you're bringing it to a boil, the alcohol will burn off and it's fine to eat
