Moving apart from your SO

My Br and I have been together for 4 years. We started dating our junior year of highschool and we moved in with each other 8 months into our relationship. We got our own house and lived together for a little over 2 years. We decided we wanted to go back to school/ not live together anymore. We love each other and still stay over at each others house every so often. Our friends don't seem to understand us and I don't really mind. But since living separately I feel better about our relationship. We argue less and I don't feel like his mother lol lately he's been hinting about getting our own place again and I honestly don't know how I feel about it. I love him but I don't think I want to live with him again at least not yet. What do I do or say so that I don't hurt his feelings or our relationship?
