Toothache remedies?

For a week or so now, I've had pain in one tooth that comes and goes on the right hand side. It's starts off sharp, but then goes into a painful throbbing. It's really beginning to drive me up the wall. Painkillers are helping but not taking the pain away completely. The gum around it hurts, too, as well as my jaw, face and right side of my head... It doesn't help that I grind my teeth pretty badly during the night. My ex partner told me he could hear me sometimes when he woke up! I was wondering whether anyone had any home remedies that actually work? Any help would be appreciated...
