Army girlfriend advice?

So on Monday my boyfriend left for basic training and he's going to be gone for 5 months. He was able to call me last night and the night before, but he starts basic training today. He said basic training will last like 5 weeks so he won't be able to call me. I'm having a hard time coping because all my friends are normally busy so he was usually the only one who would hang w or text me(a few nights I'd be with friends). I just need on advice on how to distract myself or something to keep me busy.

My best friends boyfriend is in the army and during bootcamp he got to use his phone a lot. And just remember 5 weeks is just A little over a month. Just try to keep yourself busy with hobbies or on Facebook there's lots of support pages for army girlfriends. My husband is in the marines and his bootcamp was 3 months and he wasn't even allowed to bring his phone but during that time I got a job, and that really helped. I also found a page on Facebook for other girls who had boyfriends/husbands graduating on the same day.    And are you going to his graduation? I found it really fun to look on YouTube at bootcamp graduation videos where girls would finally reunite with their soldiers/marines/sailors etc.... And the night of his graduation, on the drive back home, we stopped at Disneyland. So maybe plan fun stuff to do to keep your mind off of how much you miss him. I know it's hard but when you finally see him it will be worth it!!! Good luck 💜💜

I totally understand how you feel and know what you're going through. Although mine just went on his first deployment for a year 10,000 miles away. But when we first met a couple of years ago, I was in Indiana and he was stationed in Washington state. Back then I had no idea about anything about the Navy, or the military in general. How things worked, how often he could talk, I knew nothing. So, being the "young dumb newbie", as I called myself, I would get upset when he would not text back right away. But I know now that if you're right in the middle of a conversation and he doesn't reply, that's okay. Because he might have gotten called to do something. He won't have time to talk 24/7, but when he has the time, he will definitely take advantage of it. Also, if he can get mail, send him a letter! They love when they get mail from home. Skyping is also a great thing. Now when he went overseas at the beginning of June, I was practically a wreck for the first month. Cried all the time, depressed. But then I started to get more busy. It really helps to stay busy. We only get to talk about once a week, but we make the most of it. Also, when he first got deployed, I started watching army wives on Netflix. If you haven't watched that show, I highly recommend you watch it. It helped me kinda understand what they go through and I learned a bunch from the show. Now, I know it's not completely real, but it ms a great show and helped me. Sorry for rambling on, but I wanted to help out as much as I could! Good luck to you both 😊

I went through the same thing. Make sure you give him his address  and write letters to eachother, thats one of the things that got me so happy just getting a letter weekly.

I've been going through the same thing, my bf left a month ago to basic and it feels like forever. But to kind of not get all depressed about it I've been working, it keeps you busy for a bit, idk thts just me, hope everything goes well.
